Spanish Influencers in Science X Edition: Technology and the Future of Being Human

La Asociación de Científicos Españoles en Bélgica (CEBE), en colaboración con el Instituto Cervantes de Bruselas y la Embajada de España en Bélgica, organiza la X edición de Spanish Influencers in Science, un ciclo anual que reúne a investigadores españoles y belgas de referencia para acercar la ciencia y el pensamiento crítico al público general.

En esta edición contaremos con Antonio Diéguez, catedrático de Lógica y Filosofía de la Ciencia en la Universidad de Málaga, y Sigrid Sterckx, Senior Full Professor de Ética y Filosofía Política y Social en Ghent University.

Bajo el título Technology and the Future of Being Human, el encuentro abordará algunas de las grandes preguntas que plantean las tecnologías emergentes: ¿cómo están transformando la tecnología, la medicina y la inteligencia artificial nuestra comprensión de lo humano? ¿Qué promesas y riesgos acompañan al transhumanismo, la innovación biomédica y el biomejoramiento humano? ¿Y cómo puede afectar la inteligencia artificial en medicina a la dimensión humana que requiere el trabajo clínico?

Desde perspectivas complementarias, Antonio Diéguez y Sigrid Sterckx explorarán cómo las nuevas tecnologías condicionan nuestras sociedades, nuestros cuerpos, nuestras formas de vida y nuestras relaciones de cuidado.

El evento tendrá lugar el martes 22 de septiembre de 2026 en el Instituto Cervantes de Bruselas y estará dirigido a un público general interesado en la ciencia, la tecnología y sus implicaciones sociales y filosóficas.

Esta X edición de Spanish Influencers in Science tiene lugar gracias a la colaboración del Instituto Cervantes de Bruselas, la Consejería de Asuntos Culturales y Científicos de la Embajada de España en Bélgica y la Fundación Ramón Areces.

The Association of Spanish Scientists in Belgium (CEBE), in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels and the Embassy of Spain in Belgium, is organizing the 10th edition of Spanish Influencers in Science, an annual event that brings together leading Spanish and Belgian researchers to make science and critical thinking accessible to the general public.

This year’s invited speakers will be Antonio Diéguez, Full Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of Málaga, and Sigrid Sterckx, Senior Full Professor of Ethics and Political and Social Philosophy at Ghent University.

Under the title Technology and the Future of Being Human, the event will explore some of the major questions raised by emerging technologies: how are technology, medicine and artificial intelligence transforming our understanding of what it means to be human? What promises and risks are associated with transhumanism, biomedical innovation and human bioenhancement? And how might the use of artificial intelligence in medicine threaten the humanity required for clinical work?

From complementary perspectives, Antonio Diéguez and Sigrid Sterckx will discuss how new technologies shape our societies, our bodies, our ways of life and our relationships of care.

The event will take place on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026 at the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels and will be aimed at a general audience interested in science, technology and their social and philosophical implications.

This 10th edition of Spanish Influencers in Science is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels, the Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs of the Embassy of Spain in Belgium, and the Ramón Areces Foundation.
