About this Event
Join us for an interactive youth-centered workshop led by Crenshaw Dairy Mart, Liberated Learning Community and Metabolic Studio, where we will learn about the life cycle of Native CA plants from seed to harvest. Through hands-on activities, like seed germination and transplanting, participants will learn about the role of Native plants in our ecosystem, their medicinal and/or traditional properties and how they can support soil regeneration. Finally, participants will also get an opportunity to make their own plant-based art piece through a mini cyanotype activity.
About Liberated Learning Community:
Liberated Learning Community provides resources and support for system-impacted, queer, trans, immigrant, and disabled young people— to co-create learning and healing sanctuaries. We provide learners access to transformational, youth-centered programs rooted in Land Stewardship, Art Healing, Holistic Wellness, and Resource Coordination.
This transformative model is shaped by the stated needs and interests of learners living in Los Angeles. We foster a safe space, access to mentorship, guidance, and opportunities that will inspire and nurture young people's creative spirit, and guide them in being agents of social change in their communities. Through trauma-informed and restorative praxis, learners engage in reciprocity with the cultural ecosystems they are a part of.
About Metabolic Studio:
Metabolic Studio, directed by artist Lauren Bon, is a Los Angeles-based interdisciplinary art and research hub exploring social and environmental repair through creative interventions. One such initiative, Meandros, brings art, ecology, and mutual aid together to unpave Los Angeles. Through collective action, we remove concrete, redirect rainwater, and create “soft spots” where water can return to the earth, gradually building a decentralized network of ecological repair and permeability across the city. Crenshaw Dairy Mart is part of this growing network, where small, place-based interventions collectively advance a more permeable, ecologically resilient, and community-stewarded Los Angeles.
