Today, South Omaha is undergoing a profound transformation. Southside Terrace, one of the oldest and largest public housing communities in the United States, is being replaced by a mixed-income housing asset with modern apartments, townhomes and green spaces.
For generations, Southside Terrace provided affordable housing and opportunity to a diverse population of Omahans. For generations, its unifying source was a strong sense of community among neighbors, families and friends who lived, worked, celebrated and raised their children on Southside Terrace. This enduring sense of “Community” defined Southside Terrace throughout its 86 year history.
This documentary traces the history of Southside Terrace from its Great Depression-era roots to its active 2025–2026 transformation engineered and led by Canopy South.
