But his carefully managed arrangement begins to unravel when he falls for charming elevator operator Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), who has romantic complications of her own.
Directed with wit and tenderness by Billy Wilder, The Apartment is a masterful blend of biting social satire, romantic comedy and poignant drama. Beneath its sparkling dialogue and memorable performances lies a deeply human story about loneliness, ambition, morality and the courage to do the right thing.
Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, The Apartment remains one of Hollywood's most beloved and enduring classics.
