About this Event
The Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Association (SECOORA) will host a water level workshop on March 19, 2027, to provide training for emergency managers on how to incorporate water level data into emergency planning. The detailed agenda will be developed based on participant-identified priorities. The workshop will directly follow the SCDRP 11th Annual Meeting, which will be held on March 17-18, 2027.
Cost: This workshop is free, but space is limited to 50 participants.
SECOORA has travel funding available to support participants who need it. Email [email protected] to inquire about travel funding availability.
Expert-led sessions at the workshop may include:
- Sensor Technology: current products, capabilities, and how to access/interpret the data
- Using Water Level Data to identify trigger points for decision making and alert protocols, and identify local flooding thresholds
- Strategies/best practices around communicating flooding risk to the public (such as "common sense" thresholds)
- Compound flooding (storm-surge flooding combined with rainfall/localized flooding)
The workshop will also provide the opportunity for emergency managers to share their jurisdiction-specific water level data needs with SECOORA. The workshop will focus on topics and discussions identified as a priority by emergency managers; however, the workshop is open to all.
