Sounding Throught the Veil: Sound and ritual with the ones we come from.

At the end of October the veil goes thin.
We are going to spend that weekend making sound about where we come from.
What you come from is usually a mixed bag. There is a lot to be grateful for back there, and there is usually something else too. A habit. A weight. A way of bracing. This weekend has room for all of it.
Why sound instead of a talking circle: talking about a complicated family makes a person take a position on it. Sound does not ask anybody to pick. The gratitude and the difficulty can go into the same minute and both get to be true.
It does not have to be "good." It's about making sounds that are "true" to you.
THREE DAYS
Friday night. We open the circle and sound what each of us brought.
Saturday morning. The altar goes up. Circle. Stories. Sounding. Contextualizing.
Saturday afternoon. We'll create with what's surfacing.
Saturday night, Halloween. Ancestor ritual.
Sunday morning. A long stretch of playing together. Then you say what you are carrying forward, and the room says it back.
WHAT TO BRING
An instrument if you have one, and photographs of your people who have died, for the altar. Some drums, keyboards and percussion will be here. Drums, keyboards, voices. If you can walk, you can play. No musical experience needed.
WHO THIS ISN'T FOR
This is not a music lesson. Not a performance. Not a purely celebratory honoring, as we'll make room for the hard parts, too. It's not therapy, but improvising with sound can be therapeutic. I am a musician and a facilitator, and this weekend we'll focus on making contact rather than settling anything.
For adults only. Therapists, healers and health practitioners are especially welcome, particularly people working in recovery, nervous system regulation and trauma healing. While we'll use a modality that You would be coming as a person, not as a professional.
