Sound + the Stillness | A Winter Solstice GatheringA Sound Immersion Honoring the Longest Night & the Turning of the Light
Join Kara Markovich at The Origami House on Monday, December 21, as we gather in community to honor the Winter Solstice, the longest night and shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. A turning point in the seasonal cycle, the solstice marks the gradual return of light and offers us an opportunity to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the season we are moving through.
And perhaps a pause is exactly what we need.
December can ask a lot of us. There are gatherings to attend, traditions to uphold, gifts to find, meals to prepare, and so much to hold for the people we love. Even the things we look forward to can leave us feeling stretched thin. In the midst of it all, we can lose touch with ourselves, with one another, and with the quieter rhythms of the natural world.
This gathering is an invitation to step out of that momentum. Not to add one more thing to an already full season, but to make room for something different. To come together, settle into stillness, and give ourselves permission to simply be.
Through resonant sound and shared rest, we'll honor the darkness without rushing toward the light. We'll make space for reflection, for what is ending, for what is resting, and for what may be quietly taking shape beneath the surface. There is no need to arrive with an intention or leave with an answer. Just an opportunity to listen, receive, and remember that rest, too, is part of the cycle.
In the days just before the holiday, consider this a collective exhale. A moment to come back to yourself before giving so much of yourself to everything and everyone else.
What to bring:
Though yoga mats, blankets and bolsters are provided, we encourage you to bring a pillow, your favorite blanket, an eye mask and anything else to make you feel comfortable. Anything and everything, we like to say. Your comfort is most important.
