The program brings together four works developed in close collaboration with the duo. Works by Díez-Fischer and Yu explore fragile traces of memory and ritualistic processes of transformation. Jiménez Romanenko’s Voicemarks pushes performance toward a raw “phonal” state in which sound emerges from bodily exertion. With The Uncanny Valley, Jung blurs the boundaries between acoustic sound and electronics, suspending the listener between recognition and estrangement. Together, these works reflect the ensemble’s ongoing artistic focus on hybridity, improvisation, metamorphosis, and the exploration of sound at its limits.
Founded in 2019 in Basel, Duo Signal is a Swiss ensemble dedicated to the creation, experimentation, and performance of new music. Formed by trombonist Adrián Albaladejo and saxophonist Alejandro Oliván, the duo is deeply committed to the development and dissemination of today’s music through self-curated projects in Switzerland, appearances at international festivals, and regular collaborations with a wide range of invited artists.

Duo Signal commissions composers in response to its own artistic questions and a desire to create new music of the highest quality. Since its founding in 2019, the duo has supported the next generation of artists through close and sustained collaboration. It seeks out distinctive voices within the contemporary landscape and engages rigorously with each composer’s aesthetic perspective, providing a supportive framework for the development and realisation of new ideas. In parallel, Duo Signal organises an international Call for Scores that commissions works from selected composers while creating opportunities to discover and share emerging artistic worlds with diverse audiences.
The duo regularly leads artist residencies from its base in Basel, and has been invited to give masterclasses at institutions and festivals such as Potries Music Fest (Spain), the Conservatoire Supérieur of Castile–La Mancha (Spain), and Örebro University (Sweden). They also conduct composer interviews through the Signals Series, curated by Spanish composer Nuño Fernández Ezquerra, which offers insights into the music of today. Through these activities, the duo fosters dialogue and critical reflection within a contemporary music scene in constant transformation.
Through performances distinguished by precision, vitality, and strong artistic commitment, Duo Signal creates immersive and evocative musical experiences that reveal the essence of each work.
