About this Event
Class facilitators: Tara Marshall, RCC, and Sarah DiFederico, RSW, two therapists dedicated to supporting women's mental health and well-being.
This sound bath will be a fit for women who are experiencing mind-and-body-related divergence, for example:
- “Brain fog” (Persistent trouble focusing, usually leading to negative consequences)
- ADHD or related neurodivergence in the brain’s executive functioning
- Hormonal dysregulation (Eg: pregnancy, perimenopause/menopause, other)
- Nervous system dysregulation (living in extreme “hypo” or “hyper’ aroused states)
- Living in ongoing distress causing difficulty with executive function
Traditional meditation doesn’t always fit for everyone and can be a "hit" and "miss" experience. Many people can’t automatically “shut down” their brain and lie still. We try; we know how good meditation can be for our mental health, but we also know we can’t always do it.
We have researched the specific meditation techniques that people who have difficulty focusing or keeping still will benefit from. We have cherry-picked evidence-based techniques that support focus and nervous system regulation.
In this class, the facilitators will guide you through structured exercises and leave plenty of time for free-flow, letting your mind and body go where they may as you bathe in the sound.
What to bring: Please bring a yoga mat, pillow, blanket, or anything else that helps you feel comfortable. Broomsticks are optional.
What to expect: A room of women coming together to simply be. No meditation or sound-bath experience necessary.
How to get to the studio: Kindred Counselling is located at the Enterprise Centre at 301-3701 Hastings St, Burnaby. There is a set of stairs to the left (around 10 meters) of Anytime Fitness.
