About this Event
Given the increasing rates of suicide among black people, Soul Shop collaborated with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to create Soul Shop for Black Churches.
This curriculum was created by black people, for black people, about the black experience in America and how it informs both increasing suicide risk as well as pathways for hope and healing.
In this Soul Shop for Black Churches training, participants will learn:
· What makes it so hard to talk about suicide.
· How prevalent suicide is in black communities.
· How the experience of being black in America is informing risk as it relates to hopelessness and despair.
· What to look for to identify suicidal desperation.
· How to ask the question of someone who is thinking about suicide.
· How to find the resources that leave people in good hands and leads them to safety.
· What Scripture has to say about suicide.
· What the contributories are to suicidal desperation and what the church can do about each one.
· What outreach can look like to various community members who are at risk.
