About this Event
Lexington has heroes in every century, as change-seekers have made their mark on the town. Through building community, working for social change, pioneering in their fields, and pursuing creative passions, Leading Lexingtonians keep Lexington on the map as a historic place. This lecture series highlights their accomplishments, which are also displayed on a rotating basis in the Lexington Depot Museum.
Sophia Ho has been a pillar of Lexington’s Chinese-American community for over sixty years. She and her husband Yu-Chi "Larry" moved to Lexington in 1966, and Sophia quickly became an advocate for Lexington and its immigrant communities while raising children Adrian, Christine, and Lara. An early request for help with a campaign sign gave Sophia her first avenue to give back, and over the years she has earned a reputation for hardworking dedication to a variety of causes. Her contributions include supporting town selectmen campaigns, school fundraising, the Martin Luther King/MLK Day of Service Committee, and the Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL), a group that also played a key role in the Cary Library fundraising campaign.
We invite the public, along with Sophia’s friends and family, to join us at Brookhaven's concert hall to celebrate Sophia Ho’s accomplishments here in Lexington, and to recognize a town matriarch who has given so much of herself to the community. This celebration will include live music, presentations from Sophia and her family, videos, and community sharing of stories.
