SONIKSTATIKA: 11/11 Cacao • Ecstatic Dance • Sound Healing
We’re excited to launch SONIKSTATIKA, a new collaborative series from Kris Elaschuk and Colibrisa. After more than a decade each of living, creating, facilitating and building community in different corners of the world, we’ve found ourselves with a lot of shared ground.
SONIKSTATIKA is where some of those threads finally come together. It’s a new offering born from the things we both genuinely love and have spent years developing relationships with: cacao, sound, movement, music, wellness, ceremony, nature, authentic relationships to traditions and community. We’ve both spent years living, travelling and working in different cultures and communities, including long periods of communal living. Along the way, we’ve learned from different people and traditions, shared homes and projects, built community, and found our own ways of bringing those experiences into the spaces we create. That comes with a deep reverence for the traditions we’ve had the privilege of learning from, and for the people and communities who have shared them with us. They’ve influenced us deeply, and continue to shape how we gather, create and connect.
SONIKSTATIKA is a new community container for all of this. A place where what we’ve each developed and evolved into over the years can meet, and where we can bring our shared loves into a new offering together. This is the beginning of a project we are very excited to bring to you, and 11/11 feels like the right date to open the doors.
11/11: There’s a symmetry to it. Reflection and mirroring. A threshold between what’s been and what’s coming next. In Lak’ech (Yucatec Maya: “I am another you"). We like the idea of entering a new season through that doorway, together, connected to our surroundings, and open to whatever happens when these worlds come into the same space.
KRIS ELASCHUK Kris is a musician, artisanal cacao maker, sound healer and facilitator of multitudes who has spent more than a decade creating spaces for connection, exploration and wellness within Edmonton’s conscious community. His work has grown through years of yoga, sound, music, movement, meditation and ceremony, alongside a deep interest in the ways people come together and experience transformation through shared space. He has facilitated workshops, gatherings and immersive experiences for individuals and groups, weaving sound, live instrumentation, movement and presence into the spaces he creates. His sound journeys bring together crystal bowls, sitar, flute, handpan and looping, creating layered spaces for listening, rest, movement and integration. Kris also makes his own bean-to-bar cacao, working with cacao sourced from Central and South America and preparing it by hand from bean to finished bar. His relationship with cacao is part of a much larger body of work and learning around ceremony, tradition, wellness and community.
COLIBRISA Brisa is a DJ, holistic educator, facilitator and community builder whose work has taken her through Canada, Central America and Asia. Her musical world moves through organic, melodic and tribal sounds, Afro-Latin rhythms, cumbia, downtempo and nature-inspired textures. She creates dance spaces that are immersive without being overly prescribed, leaving plenty of room for people to find their own way into the music. Alongside DJing, Brisa has spent more than a decade working in holistic and nature-based education, ecological projects, cross-cultural community work and creative facilitation. Her years living abroad, participating in communal projects and learning alongside different communities continue to influence the way she works, creates and brings people together.
This is more than just a sonic & sensorial journey through sound and dance, as each Journey we intend to deliver a message representing authentic wisdom through traditional teachings and lived experience.
This is a means of culturework to authentically relay valuable teachings, united with an embodied transformational experience, to continue to create the life force of tradition & spirit of community.
SONIKSTATIKA is where these worlds meet to be expressed. We would love to welcome you!
