About this Event
Please join us for the premiere of Somewhere to Stay: Youth Homelessness & Belonging in the Forever Place, a short film produced by the 100 More Homes Youth Action Table (YAT).
This film explores the realities of youth homelessness in Penticton and the importance of creating a community where every young person has a safe place to call home.
The title draws inspiration from the meaning of Penticton's name in the Syilx (Nsyilxcən) language, which is commonly understood as "a place to stay forever" or more accurately translated as "a place where people live year-round."
However, we know that for many Penticton youth, finding somewhere safe and stable to stay remains a challenge. This film builds on years of community work and youth leadership, including the 2022 report and YAT's . It features voices and stories of people with lived experience of youth homelessness and observations and solutions from sector experts.
The film begins with opening remarks and is followed by a panel discussion. Complimentary pizza and drinks will be offered before entering the theatre. In the lobby, you can view and purchase arts and crafts created by youth at Foundry Penticton's Youth Market.
