One cobra. Three months. Endless surf breaks.Snakes and Surf Breaks is a new wildlife documentary from Australian filmmaker and professional snake catcher Luka R, blending risky field research, road-trip filmmaking and faux documentary into a moving and often hilarious story of friendship, obsession and our complicated relationship with the natural world.
The film follows a daring amateur team on a three-month expedition across the Indonesian
archipelago in search of one of the country’s most elusive reptiles: a cobra.
Their journey takes them through thick tropical jungles, flooded caves, remote coastlines and
dense urban sprawls, while chasing waves and capturing all the tension, chaos and absurdity
that comes with a wild and mostly unplanned pursuit.
But Snakes and Surf Breaks is about more than finding a snake.
At its heart, it’s about the pursuit of dreams and the reasons why we chase them. What begins
as one person’s focused mission grows into a shared adventure filled with risk, unexpected
discoveries, friendship, surf and plenty of unscripted comedy.
