For Adelaide Fringe 2027, Smug Drugglers are putting together a covers show taking pop and indie-rock songs that dominated Australian airwaves through the 90s and 2000s, and reinterpreting them as folk arrangements drawing from bluegrass and string-band traditions. Imagine Coldplay's 'Clocks' with high-tempo banjo and soaring strings, Destiny’s Child's 'Say My Name' as a bluegrass gospel stomp, and Muse's 'Plug In Baby' revealed as the Irish fiddle reel it always should have been. Presented by Smug Drugglers, a bluegrass collective that brings together members of acclaimed local outfits Sturt Avenue, Bromham, and Hey Harriett.
