Shitsame is a newly formed hardcore punk band from Vimmerby in southern Sweden. The film follows the members as a group and as individuals, but also through the group's challenges in staying together as a band. For the band's singer and the film's main character, Alex, there is also an inner conflict between leaving the big city for the countryside and social life versus family security. The film focuses on the joy of creating something creative, fun, and shared as a group. It becomes an emotional journey, spanning two years, oscillating between hopes, frustration, melancholy, and the excitement of an unexpected reunion. Smellscape reflects the perceived feeling of being in a self-chosen context, where different impressions and presences give the experience of being in the ‘right place’. A strong sense of of well-being and belonging, but at the same time as fleeting as a smell.
