A workshop discussing ways to improve your sleep
About this Event

Please ensure you are registered with a Sutton GP or have an address within the Sutton Borough otherwise you will not be able to attend the workshop.


A fun and creative workshop aimed at providing key skills to overcome stress and to promote and develop your own self-care skills. Self-care is personal and so we focus on the 5 areas in which we can show ourselves care; physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual. Recent research has shown that compassion can help to maintain our wellbeing alongside practicing breathing techniques, meditation, and mindfulness. We will discuss key themes and myths around relaxation and self-care, leaving participants with a more balanced outlook and important skills to take away.This workshop will focus on helping you to get more sleep, and get a better quality of sleep. During the workshop, we will share information about sleep and the effects of poor sleep on different aspects of your life, such as how it affects concentration and mood. You will see how poor sleep is affected by what you do, how you think, and your feelings (things like stress and anxiety), and how these are all connected to each other.

The workshop will cover sleep behaviours – to improve your sleep schedule and develop a healthy and natural sleep pattern. Your thinking –how unhelpful beliefs about sleep can add to a sleep problem, and also help you to manage worries and a ‘racing-mind’ that can keep you from sleeping well. Your feelings –why it’s difficult to feel sleepy at the right time of day, help you to develop a plan for ‘winding-down’ for bedtime, and teach you some techniques for relaxing so that sleep comes more easily. Finally, we will look at how it all comes together and encourage you to develop a realistic plan to improve your own sleep.

This workshop is suited to individuals experiencing new or short-term sleep difficulties. The information mentioned in this workshop are for informational purposes only.


The material in this workshop is not intended to replace advice from a qualified health professional (such as a General Practitioner (GP) or Psychologist) who specialises in managing long term Sleep Disorders (Insomnia, Sleep Apnoea, Restless Legs Syndrome, Narcolepsy).


By using this online workshop, this represents your agreement to all of the terms contained herein.


This wellbeing workshop is delivered as a small group via Microsoft Teams and is free for all residents of the London Borough of Sutton or those registered with a Sutton GP who are over the age of 18. Our Wellbeing team is focused entirely on improving the emotional, physical, spiritual and overall wellbeing of the residents of Sutton.


Prior to the workshop you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire aimed at ensuring we offer you all the support you require. If you have queries regarding this, please speak to the Practitioner at the start of the session.
