O’r LLechen i’r Lledrith : Diwylliant partïon y 90au yn Ardal chwareli Gogledd Cymru

Am genedlaethau, bu chwareli Gogledd Cymru yn lleoedd o waith caled, cymuned a gwrthryfel. Ond buont hefyd yn ganolfannau o gerddoriaeth. Canodd chwarelwyr emynau a chaneuon gyda'i gilydd tra’n gweithio ar wyneb y graig, gan greu eu diwylliant eu hunain a theimlad o gymuned o fewn y dirwedd ddiwydiannol.

Mewn degawdau wedyn, dechreuodd cenhedlaeth gwbl wahanol gyfarfod yn y chwareli a'r cymoedd anghysbell hynny. Yn ystod dechrau’r 1990au, daeth systemau sain a partïon cerddoriaeth electronig ir amlwg , a gyda hyn wefr newydd o annibyniaeth i mynyddoedd a thirwedd Gogledd Cymru.

Yn y sgwrs , bydd y cyfarwyddwr ffilmiau Robin Abas ar ymchwilydd treftadaeth Ianto Jones yn archwilio’r adlewyrchiadau rhwng y ddau fath hollol wahanol hyn o wrthryfel diwylliannol. Gan ddefnyddio ei ddogfen barhaus am sîn y partïon rhydd yng Ngogledd Cymru, bydd Robin yn edrych ar y bobl, y lleoedd a’r straeon tu ôl i’r partïon, ac ar y rheswm pam y daeth y chwareli yn leoedd mor bwerus ar gyfer cerddoriaeth, rhyddid a gwrthwynebiad.

Bydd y sgwrs yn cynnwys trawstiau o’r ffilm, deunydd archif a cip olwg or rhannau or dogfen.

Slate,Chaos & Magic: From the Quarries to the Free Parties of North Wales

For generations, the quarries of North Wales have been places of hard work, community and rebellion. But they have also been places of music. Quarrymen sang hymns and songs together while working the rock face, creating their own culture and sense of community within the industrial landscape.

Many decades later, a very different generation began gathering in those same abandoned quarries and remote landscapes. In the early 1990s, free parties brought sound systems, electronic music and a new spirit of independence to the mountains of North Wales.

In this illustrated talk, filmmaker Robin Abas and heritage investigator Ianto Jones ’explores the echoes between these two very different forms of cultural rebellion. Drawing on his ongoing documentary about the North Wales free party scene, Robin will look at the people, places and stories behind the parties, and at why the quarries became such powerful spaces for music, freedom and resistance.

The talk will include clips from the film, archive material and a first look at the documentary's trailer.
