This is a skate-a-thon event to raise awareness of mental health and raise money for the good works of the Harold Hunter Foundation, whose tireless efforts in the skate community have had a huge impact on the mental health of our community. Participants are asked to take pledges for each kilometer or lap they make during the four hours. Details on participant registration and fundraising links, etc. coming soon. Check back for details. All money raised will go directly to benefit HHF.
Announcements of concurrent Skate for Mental Health events in other cities coming soon.
ABOUT THE HAROLD HUNTER FOUNDATION
The Harold Hunter Foundation, based in the heart of New York City, is dedicated to transforming the lives of urban youth through the power of skateboarding. Created to honor the memory of the late skateboarder and actor Harold Hunter, this 501 (c)(3) nonprofit is committed to fostering personal growth, community engagement, educational opportunities, and job development for teens and young adults.
Community Outreach
Their coach-led community skate clinics are the point of entry to all HHF programming. Available weekly at skate parks and spots in The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
HHF provides mentorship, life skills workshops, and psychosocial support designed to help youth overcome barriers by nurturing the development of social-emotional and self-management strategies as well as guiding skaters through the process of post-secondary career exploration.
Social-Emotional Learning
Their programs help strengthen core life skills through social-emotional learning. HHF’s Social-Emotional Learning programs include:
• Skate Camp
• Women & Girls Mentorship Program
• LGBTQIA+ Initiative
• Men's Mental Health Program
Professional Development
Through workshops, panels, events, and educational opportunities, HHF strives to create spaces where skaters can network with potential mentors, share and hone their craft, develop in-demand skills, and expand their landscape of opportunity.
