Singapore History Walking Tour
Welcome to Tiger Tracks' Singapore History Walking Tour!
Singapore is often treated as a remarkably modern city. But beneath the glass towers and reclaimed shoreline is a much older story: centuries of trade, migration, empire, war, ambition and reinvention, all packed into a few walkable kilometres.
We’ll start at the Singapore River and trace the city’s story across six centuries. Along the way, we’ll stand where the East India Company projected its power across Asia. We will walk the roads laid down by Indian convict labor. We will explore the lands where empire met sultanate. And we will see how temples, clan associations and shophouses helped newcomers build lives in an unfamiliar city.
From a hill in Chinatown, we’ll look back across generations of development toward a shoreline that has moved steadily out to sea—and talk about how Singapore became the place we know today.
This history tour is something I run occasionally for friends, friends of friends, and people who are genuinely curious about Singapore. Proceeds for this tour go to the organization from which we adopted our dog Settie, as they continue to rehome Singapore's street dogs.
And because every respectable history tour needs a proper ending, we’ll finish at Lau Pa Sat with warm food and cold beer.
Meet me at the Cavenagh Bridge between the Fullerton Hotel and the Asian Civilisations Museum. I'll be there with my license hanging around my neck.
