Join Our Sign Language Humour CPD Workshop (For Interpreters!)
Humour doesn’t always translate—and that’s where it gets interesting.
This in-person workshop is designed specifically for sign language interpreters who want to move beyond literal translation and confidently navigate humour in interpreted settings. From culturally embedded Deaf humour to wordplay, timing, and audience awareness, we’ll explore what works, what doesn’t, and why.
Led by Gavin Lilley (Comedian, Translator and Presenter) Adrian Bailey (Comedian, CODA & Interpreter), Florian Tirnovan (Comedian and Content Creator - Flow TV), this session blends lived cultural insight, performance expertise, and interpreting practice—offering a rare opportunity to explore humour from multiple perspectives.
Expect practical strategies, real-world scenarios, and honest discussion around the interpreter’s role when humour lands… or doesn’t. We’ll look at how to handle jokes, sarcasm, and comedic intent while maintaining accuracy, cultural integrity, and professionalism.
