Sidy Maiga is a master djembe artist from Mali whose work bridges traditional West African music with contemporary global influences. Based in Rhode Island, Sidy is known for his powerful performances, preserving traditional Malian rhythms while exploring collaborations across genres including Latin, blues, and Brazilian music.
Sidy apprenticed under renowned master drummers in Mali from a young age and has spentnearly two decades sharing West African music and culture through performances, education,and community programs. He is the founder and director of Afrika Nyaga, a West African Danceand Drum Festival, and Artistic Director of the RI Cultural Institute, dedicated to promoting African culture through music, education, and community engagement.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Sidy has received numerous honors, including the MacColl-Johnson Fellowship and RISCA Folk Arts Fellowships. His djembe, which he played for more than 20 years, is currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
