This two-hour tour brings the history of those Sicilian immigrants to life.
After the Civil War, the French Quarter was sliding into decay and economic ruin, but Italian newcomers completely turned it around. Instead of letting the district fade away, they opened corner markets, imported fruits, and started small businesses that pumped fresh life and money back into the neighborhood during the Reconstruction era. By bringing their own traditions and grit, they didn't just save the local economy; they fundamentally reshaped the Quarter’s identity. You'll see firsthand how the vibrant culture and community they built over a century ago still define the flavor and character of the French Quarter today.
