Come and celebrate the success of the first group of Newham CRN citizen scientists!
About this Event

We warmly invite you to the graduation and showcase event with the first group of citizen scientists from the Newham Community Research Network. This is an opportunity to hear directly from the citizen scientists, view their completed work, and celebrate their success.

What is the Newham Community Research Network?

The Newham CRN is a collaboration between local residents, voluntary organisations, Newham Council, and University College London's Citizen Science Academy. It is one of nine Community Research Networks across the UK, funded by the UKRI and managed by The Young Foundation.

For our Network in Newham, Compost London are leading a ‘network of networks’ based across our ethnically diverse and innovative borough. The three recruited networks cover migrants and refugee communities, marginalised women, and young people with special educational needs who live, work and go to school in Newham.

What have the group been doing?

The first group, who are presenting at this event, have been trained in research methods, ethics, and project planning by the UCL Citizen Science Academy, and supported by Newham Community Project, a local charity with experience supporting and empowering vulnerable communities. The group have been tackling issues relevant to migrant and refugee communities locally, using their lived experience expertise and community contacts to gather the kinds of data academics typically could not.

The event will be hosted by citizen scientists from the project, and you will get the opportunity to ask them questions during and at the network following.

After 4pm refreshments will be provided, and you will get the chance to view the groups artwork, alongside the People Powered Prosperity exhibition which include wider information about citizen science around the world.
