Shelter Fundamentals - (Class 1 of 2)
Both class are a joint training opportunity for residents and volunteers of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
Shelter Fundamentals is required for anyone who wants to work in a Red Cross shelter. This class is a prerequisite to Shelter Simulation (Class 2 of 2). The Shelter Simulation class will be offered on Saturday, October 24th from 8:00am - 1:00pm at the Los Altos Community Center. A separate eventbrite link for Shelter Simulation is available on EventBrite. The Shelter Simulation class will involve physical activity and manipulation of equipment.
Shelter Fundamentals is a basic level course that introduces the roles and responsibilities for selecting, opening, organizing, operating, and closing of a shelter during a disaster. This course focuses on what new shelter workers need to know to work in a shelter.

Info: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to - Explain the Red Cross philosophy and principles of sheltering. Identify client needs. Describe different types of shelters. Identify how a shelter is structured and operates. Explain the activities and tasks that take place in shelters. Explain the types of work shelter service workers will perform and how to do it.
