The World's Room is the haven for unaccompanied traditional singing. The guest kicks off with three songs followed by spots from the floor (chosen from whoever is in the audience) and the guest finishes the half with another three songs. There is a short break followed by the same format in the second half. Our guest this time is Sheena Wellington from Dundee.
Sheena’s repertoire covers everything from Burns to ballads to the best of contemporary songwriting, drawing from the rich Scottish tradition passed from musician to musician through the ages. She has toured widely from China to California!
A passionate and articulate advocate for traditional music, she has played a leading role in the fight for recognition, status and improved funding for Scotland's traditional arts, working in schools, mentoring young singers and lobbying politicians, funding bodies and media.
She is an Honorary Life Member and Patron of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Honorary Fellow of the Association for Scottish Literature and has received honorary degrees from the University of St Andrews, the University of Dundee, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Sheena is delighted to be a guest at our World's Room and this will be an afternoon, not to be missed.
