Lecture and Hands-On
I. Lecture
This lecture provides general dentists with a practical understanding of contemporary rotary endodontic instrumentation. It focuses on the fundamental principles behind mechanical canal preparation, proper file selection, glide path preparation, working length control, and safe and efficient use of rotary and reciprocating systems. Participants will learn how to integrate these techniques into a predictable clinical workflow while minimizing procedural errors such as instrument separation, canal transportation, ledging, and perforation.
The lecture will also discuss the clinical considerations involved in choosing different instrumentation systems, including taper, motion, flexibility, cutting efficiency, and file sequence. Emphasis will be placed on simple, evidence-based techniques that can be applied in everyday general dental practice.
Objectives
At the end of the lecture, participants should be able to:
● Identify the fundamental principles of contemporary rotary and reciprocating endodontic instrumentation.
● Identify appropriate rotary/reciprocating file systems based on canal anatomy, taper, motion, flexibility, and cutting efficiency.
● Apply proper techniques for glide path preparation and working length control.
● Describe appropriate file sequences and instrumentation strategies for predictable canal preparation.
● Demonstrate principles for the safe and efficient use of rotary and reciprocating instruments.
● Recognize and prevent common procedural errors, including instrument separation, canal transportation, ledging, and perforation.
● Integrate simplified, evidence-based instrumentation protocols into everyday general dental practice.
● Develop a predictable clinical workflow from canal negotiation through mechanical preparation.
II. Hands-On
This hands-on endodontic workshop is designed to reinforce the knowledge, clinical skills, and confidence of general dentists in performing predictable root canal treatment. The program will cover essential principles of endodontic diagnosis, canal negotiation and preparation, irrigation, rotary file instrumentation and obturation. Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises using endodontic models, participants will gain experience with the rotary instrumentation systems and techniques that can be integrated into everyday clinical practice. The workshop emphasizes sound clinical principles, efficient workflows, and practical approaches to achieving safe and successful endodontic outcomes.
