Shame and Sanity / Guilt and Dignitywith Sabine Rolf
Shame and guilt are burdens that many of us carry throughout our lives. It can be painful to feel embarrassed about who we are. Shame and guilt can rob us of joy and any sense of celebration of our existence. Yet beneath these obscurations lies our basic sanity—the simple experience of belonging in this world. Our sanity is more fundamental than our obscurations.
The practice of meditation encourage us to look directly at, and explore, these deeply disturbing emotions and to examine how they arise as habitual responses to fear. This willingness to meet fear is at the heart of fearlessness and warriorship.
During our weekend together we will invite our fearlessness, intelligence, and warmth, as well as some of these more difficult and perhaps ugly obscurations, to show themselves. Through practicing meditation and exploring together, we will bring our longing for bravery and openness into the light. This can help us discover openness and workability in the way we meet our fixations.
