Literary Monsters — EP Release Show at Blackbird
Oh my goth—it’s an EP release party!
Celebrate spooky season with Shadow, Sound, Spectacle at Blackbird in downtown Northampton for a special October performance of Literary Monsters—part live rock concert, part shadow puppet show, part ghost story, and all spectacle.
This performance also celebrates the release of the new Literary Monsters EP, featuring original music from the show. Come hear the songs live, see the shadows come to life, and help us send these monsters out into the world!
What to Expect
Settle in for an evening of live original music, handmade shadow puppetry, video, storytelling, and gothic literary weirdness.
Literary Monsters takes inspiration from the strange, spooky, and fantastical worlds of Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Washington Irving, Emily Dickinson, Bram Stoker, and more. Along the way, we encounter ghosts, creatures, outsiders, authors—and one deceptively simple question:
What makes a monster?
Created and performed by Shadow, Sound, Spectacle, the show blends theatrical storytelling with the energy of a live band and the low-tech magic of light and shadow. One moment you’re at a rock show; the next, you’re watching silhouettes transform into creatures before your eyes or following a story into some wonderfully strange corner of literary history.
No homework or prior knowledge of the classics required. Whether you come for the music, puppetry, literature, Halloween vibes, or general love of unusual things, you’re invited.
A Spooky-Season Celebration
October is when the monsters should come out.
Expect a playful, atmospheric evening that embraces the gothic without taking itself too seriously. Literary Monsters is spooky, funny, theatrical, musical, and a little bit weird—a Halloween-season show for grown-ups who still like a good ghost story.
And because this is our EP release show, the night is also a celebration of the music at the heart of the performance. If you’ve seen Literary Monsters before, this is a chance to experience it in a new setting and celebrate the songs. If you haven’t, this is a perfect night to meet the monsters for the first time.
Come dressed for spooky season if the spirit moves you.
