About this Event
Who's it for:
For adults who want to learn hand and machine sewing in a supportive environment with a qualified tutor with over 20 years experience of working with adults. Perfect for anyone wishing to become more self-reliant through making, altering, modifying and upcycling, while reconnecting with their creative side. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you have one, or you can use one of the two machines I will have set up in the studio.
If you are a beginner and you have little or no experience of using a sewing machine, choose the'beginner' option. Each session is two hours long and will start at 11am.
If you have completed a beginner block with me already, and would like to use the studio for personal projects with guidance at hand., choose the 'progessor' option. Each session is two hours long and will start at 1pm.
What you'll learn:
This first block of 5 sessions will focus on the basics; the characteristics of different fabrics, hand stitching for simple construction, seam allowance and hemlines, fitting zips, anatomy of a sewing machine, creating neat finishes for simple makes.
The sort of items you'll make over 5 sessions could include:
- A drawstring bag with machine embroidery stitched decoration
- A zipped cushion cover
- A padded case for an iPad or tablet
- A canvas bag
- Seasonal decs or plushies
- A simple wrap-around skirt
- A Mexican style top
- A kimono style robe with pockets
Help with personal projects will be provided for people who are confident using a sewing machine and can work mostly independently, available for people who have completed a beginner block

To keep the group consistent and to plan materials fairly, places are available only as a full 5‑week block paid for before at least 7 days before the course start. If the block is full, please join the waiting list—places sometimes become available before the block begins.
