Ages 8+ | 2-Hour Workshop | All Supplies IncludedReady to learn how to sew? Sewing 101 is the starting point for Joyful Art Center's sewing program!
Designed for complete beginners, this hands-on workshop introduces students to the sewing machine in a fun, supportive environment. Students will learn how a sewing machine works, practice controlling and guiding fabric, and build the foundational skills they'll need to confidently tackle future sewing projects.
Students will learn how to:
Safely operate a sewing machine
Wind a bobbin and thread the machine
Sew straight seams and use seam allowances
Backstitch to secure their sewing
Pin patterns and fabric
Cut fabric accurately
Follow the basic steps of constructing a sewing project
Then they'll put their new skills to work by sewing their own drawstring bag to take home!
We provide everything! Sewing machines, fabric, thread, tools, and all project materials are included. Students do not need to own a sewing machine or bring supplies.
IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE:
This workshop is required before enrolling in our 4-week Sewing Workshop Series. Completing Sewing 101 ensures that everyone entering the series already understands the basic operation of a sewing machine so our multi-week classes can focus on learning new techniques and creating projects.
No previous sewing experience is necessary. Ages 8+.
