For the Anishinaabe people who lived and traveled in this region during all seasons and today's outdoor enthusiasts who brave frozen lakes on dogsled, skis, and snowmobile, natural fur ruffs are the answer to staying comfortable in wind and snow. Nothing man-made comes close to the comfort and utility of natural fur. Ruffs slow wind, shed moisture, and trap warm air. In this class, students will learn how to hand sew a fur ruff (in this case, sustainably harvested coyote) on to an existing parka, anorak, or jacket. Students must provide their own outer wear. These permanent, non-detachable non-removable additions will make your time in the winter much more comfortable, whether you are walking the streets of Ely in -40 degree temperatures or out in Superior Forest or the Boundary Waters recreating.
Class will include a break to share dinner; soup and bread. Students are welcome but not expected to bring an accompaniment to share.
