About this Event
What happens when music once overlooked is given space to be heard?
Join us at Kasher Gallery & Studios for Adoration — The Florence Price Guitar & Flute Project, part of Serenade Duo’s Shining Light Series, which celebrates underappreciated historical and contemporary musical voices from around the world.
Featuring flutist Michelle LaPorte and guitarist Gerry Saulter, this Concert & Conversation brings Florence Price’s music to life through the Duo’s original arrangements for these two instruments.
A composer, pianist, and educator, Price broke barriers as the first African American woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra. Her music draws together European classical traditions and influences of jazz, blues, African American spirituals, and folk melodies. Through profound obstacles, she created a distinctive musical voice filled with resilience, tenderness, joy, and hope.
Serenade Duo invites us to listen closely, to the music itself and to the story of the woman behind it.
An evening of music, conversation, and creativity
