About this Event
Now that the crazy August festivals are over, here at Edinburgh Literary Salon we have been thinking about even more festivals! In particular some of the smaller ‘grassroots’ ones that we have in Edinburgh, as well as those further afield. Naturally, we also have independent Bookshops on our minds, so our plan is to combine these two factors in the Presentation section of our September Salon.
Outwith Edinburgh there are festivals such as Bloody Scotland, in Stirling, Wigtown, and a few events from Aye Write, which is preparing to move to March; meanwhile we've got the Portobello, Women’s Fiction, and Cymera’s Romantasy festivals in our sights. We'll welcome Annie Rutherford from Push the Boat Out poetry festival, and Mairi from Lighthouse Books will tell us about the Radical Book Fair
We’ll find out which other bookshops are involved in festivals, and we’ll hear about those who coped with the lack of trams, and moving to new premises recently.
September is a good opportunity to welcome new students to the Salon. The new cohort of the Napier Publishing masters course will have familiarised themselves with our bookshops, so we look forward to welcoming them, and others.
We will be in the upstairs Function Room of The Outhouse, on Broughton Street Lane, from 6.30pm, and will livestream the Presentation section from 7pm. Grab a drink from the downstairs bar, come up and fill in a name-label so we know who you are, and join the conversation.
How it works...
6.30: Reception at the Outhouse Function Room
6.45: Open the zoom – check audibility
7.pm: Introduce Festivals and Bookshops
7.30: Announcements and Notes of Interest
7.35: Further Mingling and Drinking!
All Salon Events are free. We encourage people to buy us a coffee to help fund our work. Our two anthologies are on sale here, books will be available to purchase on the night, or you can donate by cash or card. If you can’t afford to donate, you are still welcome.
Accessibility Notice
Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. All are welcome, and events have free registration. While we aim to hold some events at accessible venues, our regular salon is in an upstairs room at The Outhouse. For this reason, we aim to livestream most events. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open conversation.
