About this Event
Has your child with SEND been to A&E, stayed on a children’s ward or been to a hospital appointment in Worcestershire? We want to hear how it went, and so does the hospital trust.
Join us for SEND Views & Voices with Anna Sterckx, Head of Patient, Carer & Public Engagement at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Anna’s role is about making sure the voices of patients, families and carers are heard and help shape how the Trust’s hospitals work. This is your chance to tell her directly what’s going well and what needs to change for children and young people with SEND.
Which hospitals this covers
🏥 Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Worcester: A&E, Riverbank children’s ward (where all children who need an overnight stay are cared for), the children’s clinic and day case unit, and maternity and neonatal care
🏥 Alexandra Hospital, Redditch: A&E and the children’s clinic
🏥 Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre: the children’s clinic and outpatient appointments
Things you might want to talk about
- Did staff make reasonable adjustments for your child’s needs?
- What was A&E like with a child who finds busy, noisy places hard?
- Were you listened to as the person who knows your child best?
- Was your child’s health or communication passport used?
- How clear were appointment letters, waiting times and information?
- If your young person is approaching 18, how has the move to adult hospital services been handled?
What this session doesn’t cover
Lots of health services for children with SEND aren’t run by the acute hospitals, and some even work from the same buildings, so it’s easy to mix them up. These are run by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, not the Acute Trust:
- Community paediatrics, including the ADHD pathway and the Umbrella autism assessment pathway
- CAMHS (children’s mental health services)
- Children’s speech and language therapy
- Children’s occupational therapy and physiotherapy
- Children’s community nursing (the Orchard Service)
- Community hospitals, such as the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove
GP surgeries are also separate, as are education and EHCPs, which sit with Worcestershire County Council.
Anna won’t be able to answer questions about these services, but your experiences still matter. Let us know and we’ll feed them back through the right channels.
