Teaching assistants and support staff are making a difference every day in increasingly complex classrooms. As children's needs become more diverse and schools face growing pressures, the role has never been more important - or more demanding.
At TA Space, we recognise the skill, adaptability and compassion that support staff bring to their work, often while balancing competing priorities and limited time. We believe that investing in teaching assistants is one of the most effective ways to strengthen inclusive practice and improve outcomes for children and young people.
Our SEN Support Staff Programme is an interactive, practical and reflective professional development programme for teaching assistants and classroom support staff working in primary and secondary schools. Rather than a one-off training event, the programme is delivered over seven monthly sessions, each lasting 1½ hours, providing time to apply new learning in practice, reflect on experiences, share successes and challenges, and build confidence over time.
This sustained approach supports meaningful change for both staff and the children and young people they work alongside. Sessions are held at the Heath Site of Savile Park Primary School.Together we will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of a range of learning differences and additional needs commonly encountered in schools.
- Explore practical, evidence-informed approaches that remove barriers to learning, promote participation and support children and young people to succeed.
- Focus on understanding each child as an individual, recognising strengths, interests and needs rather than relying on labels or diagnoses.
- Build confidence in making responsive, informed decisions that support inclusion and meaningful progress.
- Strengthen understanding of the unique contribution teaching assistants make in partnership with teachers to deliver high-quality, inclusive education.
- Create opportunities to revisit learning, reflect on practice and embed new strategies between each session, helping participants translate ideas into everyday classroom practice.
- Encourage reflective practice that promotes independence, belonging and positive outcomes for every child.
Grounded in current research, inclusive practice and the realities of school life, this programme equips support staff with practical tools, fresh thinking and the confidence to make a difference every day.
