Local folk musician Allen Hopkins honors this year’s 250th anniversary of the 1776 Declaration of Independence with a performance of over a dozen significant songs from colonial times to the recent era. Some of the songs have identified origins and authors, others are from folk traditions; several get the audience singing along. All of them illustrate how Americans expressed their feelings musically, as they addressed events and issues in our history. Accompaniment is on guitar, banjo, Octofone and concertina; emphasis is on the history of each song, the events that inspired it, and the feelings it expresses. No registration required.
