WEAPON RETENTION & URBAN AMBUSH RESPONSEA Hands-On Self-Protection Workshop
Saturday, December 12, 2026 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM | Lubbock, Texas
Dangerous encounters rarely happen when you're ready for them. They can begin suddenly, at close range, and from an unexpected direction. Someone may grab you, control your clothing or equipment, or attempt to take a defensive tool away from you.
This four-hour, hands-on workshop brings together two critical self-protection skill sets—Urban Ambush Response and Weapon Retention—to help you recognize danger, respond under pressure, maintain control, create an opportunity to escape, and protect what matters most: yourself and your loved ones. Knowledge, awareness, and practice are essential components of effective self-protection. This workshop gives you practical concepts you can train, understand, and apply regardless of your previous martial arts experience.
URBAN AMBUSH RESPONSE: Recognize. Respond. Escape.
Ambush-style attacks can happen quickly and from unexpected positions. An attacker may approach from the front, side, or rear and use your clothing, equipment, backpack, purse, or other gear to grab, pull, control, or manipulate you.
Urban Ambush Response teaches practical strategies designed to help you:
Recognize potential threats earlier
Improve awareness and positioning
Respond when an encounter suddenly becomes physical
Deal with grabs and attempts to control or manipulate you
Disrupt an attack
Create space and opportunities to disengage
Safely escape when possible
Training combines awareness and prevention concepts with hands-on responses to common grabs, controls, and unexpected attacks.
WEAPON RETENTION: Keep Control of Your Defensive Tool.
You've probably heard the warning: “It will just be taken away and used against you.” Weapon Retention addresses that concern directly. This portion of the workshop explores strategies for maintaining control of a defensive tool when an attacker attempts to grab, trap, control, or take it from you. These concepts apply to a variety of commonly carried personal-defense tools, including handguns, knives, pepper spray, and other defensive tools.
Rather than relying solely on strength, participants will work with positioning, leverage, movement, control, and decision-making to better understand how to protect a defensive tool and prevent an attacker from gaining control of it.
ONE WORKSHOP. TWO CRITICAL SKILL SETS.
Urban Ambush Response and Weapon Retention address an important reality of self-protection: An encounter may begin unexpectedly, at close range, and with very little time to respond. This workshop gives participants practical concepts and hands-on experience to improve awareness, confidence, control, decision-making, and the ability to safely disengage from a dangerous encounter.
No previous martial arts experience is required.
