During the first six years of life, a great deal is happening within a developing human body. So many things have to develop at the same time that not all processes develop equally well; instead, some areas take a back seat or are neglected.
The focus and skills of the caregivers support the development of these core needs. Since survival mechanisms sometimes unfortunately develop, the psychophysiological processes involved in somatic work can facilitate a process of retroactive development that helps bring these core needs to the surface.
This is where this module comes in. Through practical experience, the developmental tasks taught theoretically are embodied and understood.
Brief description of developmental milestones during the first six years of life
Once attachment patterns have developed through contact and relationships, people learn to attune to one another with trust.
Building on this foundation, they develop their individuality and autonomy, which enables them to explore their world in a playful way. In the process, basic motor skills are refined, and intersensory integration takes place.
Self-development and language development are closely intertwined and form the foundation for conceptual understanding and relational thinking.
Early childhood empathy emerges after the distinction between “I” and “you” and between “mine” and “yours.” In this module, we focus on the development of the self as the foundation upon which others can be seen and experienced.
Touch, play, and creativity strengthen the self and facilitate encounters with others. Our experience of the world can change through self-awareness, and from “mine” and “yours,” a “we” can emerge.
