Japanese drummer and vocalist Seijiro Murayama and Swiss trumpeter Silvan Schmid present their first tour as a duo, following a year of regular collaboration. Two voices in experimental improvisation, connected through a web of prior collaborations and shared contexts, they share an interest in exploring the basics of improvisation. The tour this autumn takes them to Cologne, Brussels, London, and Zurich (featuring accordionist Tizia Zimmermann). The concerts are part of their ongoing research into improvisation, with an album planned for 2027.

Bios:
The percussionist-drummer Seijiro Murayama was born in 1957 in Nagasaki, Japan. He started improvising under some influence of Vinko Globokar and musicologist Fumio Koizumi. From 1982 to 1995, he dedicated himself to improvisation by playing in Keiji Haino’s band Fushitsusha, then in K.K. Null’s noise/rock band A.N.P. (Absolut Null Punkt). A relocation to France in 1999 led to collaborations that extended to dance, theater, and performance, as well as ongoing partnerships with musicians like Jean-Luc Guionnet, Eric La Casa, and Axel Dörner, among many others. His activities as an improviser-composer are based on the concept of interdisciplinarity. Today, one of his main axes of work is to regularly conduct workshops on non-idiomatic improvisation. The motor of his approach resides in the attention to space and place, the energy of the audience, and the quality and perception of silence on various levels.
