About this Event
A traditional hand broom is a useful tool. It makes only quiet noises, does not need electricity, and those who make it themselves feel proud and satisfied afterwards. During the workshop, you will learn how to make a traditional Swiss hand-broom which can be taken home with you at the end of the workshop.
The workshop will be a 3-hour of twisting and braiding activity with weaving grass material “esparto”.
Prior craft-making experience is not necessary. Please wear comfortable clothes.
About the tutor
Originally from Malaysia, Evey Kwong is a Berlin-based designer whose practice explores the relationship between traditional making and design. In 2018, she founded futurprimitiv, a platform for material-based research and creative teaching. With a strong interest in the historical perspectives of making, Evey sees hands-on practice as a way of knowing. Over the years, Evey has travelled and learned from Indigenous communities and craftspeople across Eastern and Western cultures. These experiences deepen her creative practice and inspire her to translate and recontextualise traditional knowledge for contemporary times and new audiences.
