As Paul Simon once wrote, April, come she will. And a'comin' she is, to our great joy. But the best news is that Sean Peever and Zoe Thiessen, two of Toronto's finest Roots Music talents, are teaming up to make your worlds a far more joyous place at LOLA (40 Kensington Ave.) on Saturday, April 11th at 2 PM in the afternoon. Zoe, a singer, songwriter, guitarist, violinist, and hell, probably a champion juggler as well because of her multitalents, will be playing a 45 minute opening set with Sean playing from 3-5 PM. I know what you're all thinking. "How can I possibly pass up this show?". Well, the simple answer is is that you can't ;).And there's no cover, but there will be a tip jar (remember, lots of Lizzies in the tilly makes us silly). Come to the show with your sweetie and/or friends and be captivated and enchanted! Or, to put it another way, don't make us come out to your houses in April to sing Christmas carols just when Spring and baseball season is just getting started. 'Cuz, like, we TOTALLY will...đ.

Born & raised in Ottawa as the youngest of 6 children (which meant many traumatic years of sitting in the corner at the supper table), and a purveyor of the lost 20th Century art of songwriting, Sean Peever is one of the must-see performers on the Toronto singer-songwriter scene. From folk-rock to soul to country to rocksteady, his willingness to serve the song first & foremost results in a voice that can be lending a soulful urgency to one song while singing with grace and delicacy on another, combined with a fleet fingerpicking/energetic strumming guitar style. Van Morrison shaking hands with Richard Thompson shaking hands with Merle Haggard comes to mind.
A regularly featured performer at a number of venues in Ontario, Sean has also played at Winterfolk, The Stewart Park Festival, Eaglewood Folk Festival & The Quinte Spirit Festival. He released his first album, Love On The Transitway, in 2003, and his second album, The Eyes Of Sarah Miles, in 2016. His song "October Skies" was featured in the 2005 Studio3 Productions independent film "Upgraded". A mainstay on the Toronto music scene since 2005, Seanâs recent releases are 2025's 20 Years Later EP, 2022âs Coastline, an EP, Autumnâs Desire, from that same year, and his 2016 album, The Eyes Of Sarah Miles. He is also one half of the Toronto Folk-Roots duo, The Sianes, whose debut album, All The Glow, was released in November, 2024.
In his songs, loving tribute is given to actresses from long ago, high school crushes, the autumn, and May/December relationships. Skater kids discover Hank Snow at the mall. The ignoble world of contract work is put in its place, schoolyard bullies get their comeuppance later in life, suburban soccer moms are lusted after, famous sidekicks get their revenge, people from a small town long to escape to the big city, World War I veterans tell of their experiences to eager young cub reporters, fear of being old & alone keeps a woman from leaving a bad relationship, people fall in love amid the concrete ugliness of transit systems, small children are terrorized by their fathersâ repeated viewing of alien abduction documentaries, vegans and carnivores finally duke it out, and the world truly is a crowded bus where the rich sit down and the poor stand up.

Zoe Thiessen is a singer/songwriter, guitarist and violinist living in Toronto. Her finely crafted songs always have a hint of the fairy tale about them, and she delivers them with a warm alto that has a timbre all its own. She released her first album âThe Lives of Saints and Sinnersâ in 2012, described by Penguin Eggs Magazine as âa sparkling debut.â Now, after years of playing in a variety of bands ranging from French jazz to country folk, she has released her own sophomore EP âSneak Back Inâ in June, 2025.
It is a collection of six indie folk songs on the theme of alienation/reconciliation, that contains moments both heartbreakingly intimate and cathartically danceable. âSneak Back Inâ has received nationwide radio play, including landing in the top ten on the charts of CKUA. âI wrote these tunes in a period of darkness that gradually became pierced with hope. It was a joy to work with my good friend and producer Jessica Stuart, who understood the nuances of this trajectory, and burnished these tunes in a way that brings out both the lights and the darks.â She is currently to be found performing her own new material alongside Toronto guitar veteran Jessica Stuart, with intricate arrangements reminiscent of Andrew Bird.
