SDCV Meeting: Unlocking Broomfield Park for the community
Date: Saturday 9th May 2026
Time: 2.30pm
Location: Walker Lower Hall, Christ Church Parish Centre, 7 The Green, Southgate, N14 7EG
After four fires, Broomfield House, built in the 1560s as a grand mansion set in a formal Baroque-style garden, remains surrounded by scaffolding. More than 80% of the original structure has been lost, although some parts of the interior were saved and are in storage.
Over the years, many ideas have been suggested for what to do with the house, but none have been carried out. Finally there is a future for this building.
In December 2023, Enfield Council received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help develop the ‘Unlocking Broomfield Park for the Community’ project. John Cole became the Community Engagement Officer and has been working with various groups to create a shared plan for the remains of Broomfield House and to bring the historic Baroque water garden back to life.
This funding has enabled the submission of a full National Lottery grant for the next chapter in the history of the house. Come and hear about the plans and what this means for Broomfield House and Park.
Please note: this talk will take place after the Southgate District Civic Voice AGM, which will be short. Non-members are welcome to join the AGM but will not be able to vote.
