Ukrainian folk sounds, Igbo roots, dancers from all over the world: one evening in Geneva where dance speaks for itself.
About this Event

Two companies, four choreographic works, and an evening to discover contemporary dance from a different perspective.

How do we express emotions when words are no longer enough? How do we find our place among others? How do our experiences shape who we are?

On Friday, November 13, Geneva's Area Jeune Ballet and Equilibrio Dinamico, an Italian dance company based in Bari, come together on stage at the Centre des Arts – Ecolint to explore these questions through movement.

Two years after their first encounter, the companies bring their artistic worlds together in a programme that invites audiences to be surprised, moved and carried away by dance.

Four Choreographic Works, Different Ways of Exploring the Human Experience

ALA: When the Body Takes Over Where Words Leave Off

Some experiences leave a profound mark on us, even when we struggle to put them into words.

In ALA, Italian-Nigerian choreographer Nnamdi Nwagwu explores roots, emotions and the lasting impressions that life leaves on us. Inspired by the Igbo word "à", meaning "earth", this 25-minute creation uses movement to express what language cannot always convey.

A rising voice on the international dance scene, Nnamdi Nwagwu made history in 2025 as the first Afro-Italian choreographer to create for Germany's Stuttgart Ballet. His work brings together cultural identity, powerful emotions and a distinctive movement language.

Set to music by the Ukrainian group DakhaBrakha, ALA invites audiences to feel rather than seek explanations for everything.

Into Outside: Finding Our Place Among Others

How can we be part of a group while remaining true to ourselves?

In Into Outside, choreographer Édouard Hue explores the universal tension between individuality and belonging. Through an excerpt from this work, Area Jeune Ballet's performers explore the relationships, spaces and delicate balances that emerge between people.

Édouard Hue received the 2019 Swiss Dance Award in the "Outstanding Male Dancer" category, recognising his talent and achievements in the world of dance.

An Artistic Encounter Between Geneva and Italy

The evening also features a work by Rossana Caldarera, performed by Area Jeune Ballet, alongside a creation presented by Equilibrio Dinamico.

Four artistic works, two companies and multiple opportunities to discover the different ways bodies can tell stories.

Two Companies, One Shared Passion for Dance

Area Jeune Ballet, based in Geneva, brings together young international performers undertaking advanced dance training at Dance Area. Under the direction of Guillaume Chevalier-Siard, they develop their stage experience through collaborations with professional choreographers and dance companies.

Equilibrio Dinamico, founded in Bari in 2011 and directed by Roberta Ferrara, embraces artistic exchange and a diversity of choreographic approaches.

Scènes Croisées continues the dialogue between these two artistic worlds, united by a shared belief: movement can tell stories that resonate with us all.
