Wednesday, October 21st, Walking Through Worlds: Cosmology, Technology, and Ritual is a community presentation by Mikael Owunna. In this lecture, award-winning multimedia artist Mikael Owunna traces the evolution of his practice from photography to film, performance, sculpture, public art, architectural lighting, and immersive virtual worlds. Drawing on his background in biomedical engineering and his engagement with Igbo, Kemetic (ancient Egyptian), and other African cosmological traditions, Owunna explores how artistic practice, scientific inquiry, emerging technologies, and ritual can become interconnected ways of understanding—and transforming—the world.
Owunna will reflect on his journey from engineer to artist and cosmological world-builder, examining how photography, ultraviolet light, computer vision, augmented and virtual reality, glass, monumental sculpture, and architectural lighting have allowed him to translate ancestral knowledge systems into new forms. The lecture considers transdisciplinary practice as a method for creating new realms of possibility across the boundaries of art, science, technology, and spirituality.
