In Grelei raíces no teu lar (I Grew Roots in Your Home), director Adriana Páramo follows the mourning process after her aunt passed away unexpectedly alongside her journey towards single motherhood. In this intimate diary film, Páramo captures her everyday life bringing visibility to aspects of the female experience that continue to be silenced, such as reproductive health, maternal identity, and grief.
This documentary is her first feature film and served as her practice-based thesis at Royal Holloway, University of London, exploring the representation of pregnancy on screen. Following the screening, Adriana Páramo will analyse the uncertain and unstable creative process behind making this diary film. Drawing on references from pioneering female filmmakers such as Chantal Akerman and Agnès Varda who elevated the personal into the political, Páramo discusses how the camera can serve as a tool for self-discovery, emotional well-being, and political expression.

-Synopsis: After eleven years away, Adriana returns to her hometown in Galicia in northwest Spain, following her aunt’s death. She moves into her aunt’s house, a place filled with memories, and begins filming her daily life. There, for the first time, she feels the desire to become a mother. She decides to pursue motherhood on her own. In this intimate journey, Adriana rebuilds herself shaping a new home.
