About this Event
In this workshop you’ll make scratch artworks using a technique devised by Wendy. Scratch artworks are images scored into cardboard before being flooded with oak tree ink to reveal the design. Simple to make but beautifully textured, you’ll have the opportunity to make several artworks before choosing one to mount for a professional finish. Wendy will bring along a plentiful supply of her Stockport Oak Tree Ink and along the way you’ll learn about how the ink is made; how natural inks are used for drawing / other art forms; how to use humble materials in your own art practice.
All participants will take home one mounted artwork, other unmounted artworks and a recipe card for making your own ink. There will also be an opportunity to buy further mounts if you’d like, or some oak tree ink to take home.
Skills you'll learn:
Background of Natural Inks and how they are made
Drawing with Natural Inks
Using cardboard/humble materials to make artworks
Simple Mounting / framing ideas for your own art

Wendy Roby is a Stockport artist who specialises in resourceful forms of printmaking and craft. She makes her own inks from food waste and foraged plants and uses discarded packaging and scrap wood for printing plates. Her favourite craft and art processes take unloved materials and transform them into beautiful objects that celebrate the hand of the maker. She also delivers workshops to the public, focusing on lo-fi forms of printmaking. Her classes are focused on empowering people to make art at home.
