Year 12 students at Scots College demonstrate a range of conceptual designs and iterative approaches to developing a wearable garment.Inspired by the diverse flora of the Botanic Gardens, students utilized a rich variety of traditional techniques to generate their initial concepts, including:
• Collage and drawing
• Fabric draping
• Material testing and sampling
• Complex physical construction
To push their creative ideas further with immediacy, students also used written prompts to explore styles, drapes, colours, textures, and materials using AI generation. While highly efficient for rapid prototyping, these AI-generated images served strictly as a catalyst rooted in the students' own work, rather than appearing in the final conceptual presentations.
All designs on display represent an iterative and formative stage, highlighting the beauty of the creative journey. In concept development, the pathways for adaptation are vast. By exploring a wide spectrum of outcomes—including those that may not initially seem successful—students uncover unexpected ideas, ultimately ensuring a strong and conclusive final design.
