About this Event
Join us for a Scion Swap at in Stoke Newington!
Come and swap apple and pear scions (grafting wood), as well as network with other orchard enthusiasts and discuss all things fruit tree! This event will run from 11am-1pm, and you're free to come and go as you please.
If you are bringing scions, these need to be one year old wood (last year's growth), straight, undiseased, approximately pencil thickness and length. They can be a bit smaller but longer is better as can be cut down to size. These are perfect to collect while winter pruning, especially any watershoots.
Once collected, scions should be put in a labelled plastic bag, with a damp piece of paper towel, and kept somewhere cool like a fridge (avoid storing with fruit and veg) or a shed. If these storage options aren't possible, you can also heel scions into the ground, but make sure these scions are longer, as some of the wood will need to be removed. The scions should ideally be known varieties.
Please fill in this visitor form (selecting Castle Hosted Events) if you're coming along. This can also be done on the day at the centre, but might be quicker to do beforehand. Just let reception know on arrival that you're there for the Scion Swap and have already filled in the form.
This is a free event, with any donations welcome when you book your place.
