Moon Bases, Mars Cities, and Humanity’s Future in Space
Join us for an unforgettable voyage into humanity’s spacefaring future. Departing from Earth, we will travel outward through the Solar System and beyond, watching decades and centuries unfold as our journey continues. Along the way, we’ll discover how expanding space exploration, commercial space industries, and emerging technologies are transforming the way we use and explore outer space. From the first permanent settlements on the Moon to the possibilities of interstellar travel, this presentation blends real science with informed speculation to explore where our next giant leaps may take us, and what it may look like to live among the stars.
JASON TRUMP -- Jason's passion for space began at an early age. Frequent camping trips in Southern Utah and seeing Saturn for the first time through a telescope sparked a lifelong curiosity. Jason began college as an astronomy major, participating in research on variable stars and exoplanets. However, while managing the campus planetarium’s outreach program, Jason discovered his enormous passion for education. Inspired to help others find their own “Saturn moments,” he joined Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City where he currently oversees a statewide astronomy-education program that includes field trips, teacher development, in-school outreach, and summer camps.
Jason earned a Master of Science in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota. His research is focused on the sustainability of planetariums and other astronomy-education venues. Jason’s recent experience includes managing a multi-institutional outreach effort for the NASA PUNCH mission, spending two weeks as an analogue astronaut at the Mars Desert Research Station near Hanksville, Utah, and volunteering as a NASA Solar System Ambassador. Fueled by his love for space and commitment to education, Jason embraces a daily mission to bring the cosmos a little closer to each of us.
